Cancer Fighting Turmeric Salad Dressing

I've done a lot of research about the benefits of different foods in fighting cancer.  One of the items that keeps coming up is Turmeric, I've known about it for a few years and regularly sprinkle some on my salads and even on the dog's food.  I've also used fresh Turmeric root (It looks like Ginger root) when I make my juices.
I searched for a salad dressing with Turmeric and found a lot of them.  From all the different ones that I found I decided to include the ingredients that I thought would be good.  This is what I came up with.
Try it and let me know what you think

Cancer Fighting Turmeric Salad Dressing
5 T Olive oil
1 t Turmeric powder
½ t Black pepper
½ t Himalayan Salt
5T Apple Cider Vinegar
1 T Honey
½ Avocado

Add the Olive Oil, Turmeric, and Salt
Mix in the rest of the ingredients
Done.

Just Google: "Benefits of _______________" any of the ingredients and you will find a ton of information.

Turmeric:
Turmeric is the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory identified today.”
It helps stimulate apoptosis (Death of cells) in cancer cells and inhibit angiogenesis (Development of new blood vessels needed by cancer to grow)
To be assimilated by the body, turmeric must be mixed with black pepper.”
Ground black pepper increases the body’s absorption of turmeric by 2,000%.
Turmeric must be stabilized in oil to be absorbed by the body – preferably olive, canola or linseed oil.
Most of the information on Turmeric comes from, Anti Cancer: A New Way of Life
Himalayan Salt:
Regular refined table salt is BAD for you; Himalayan salt is actually GOOD for you.

Apple Cider Vinegar
There are many benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, from weight loss to cancer.

3 Weeks Cancer Free

I’m pretty happy with my recovery so far.  I continue to get better every day but when I look at in now week by week... Wow, what an improvement.

WARNING: If you really don’t want to read about catheter bags and bodily functions then skip this post.

Week 1 out of the hospital:  I was connected by a short leash to a catheter bag.  I pretty much stayed at home and did a few short outings with Andrea.  Had the catheter taken out the second half of the week.  What freedom that was.  It seemed like every time I went from sitting to standing, standing to walking, walking to walking up or down steps, walking straight to turning right or left... it was leak, leak, leak...   A little depressing wondering if this would be my new normal but trying to tell myself it will improve.  My body was not functioning normally on either end.  My stomach was still pretty sore, especially when going from sitting to standing.  Just stretching out the abdominal muscles after being contracted in the sitting position.  On the good side, I did take a few short walks around the neighborhood and a couple of short drives to the store.

Week 2:  Did a lot of reading, napping, hanging with the dogs, and 2-3 walks a day.  Went into work for less than an hour then home for a nap.  My body was beginning to function a little better each day.  Still pretty sore when I went from sitting for a long time to standing.  I was getting up 6 or 7 times a night to go to the bathroom, but I started making through the night without leaking.

Week 3: Hardly any soreness in the stomach when going from sitting to standing.  Increased my walking so I'm taking two or three walks a day, about 3-4 miles.  I’m only getting up 2-3 times a night; I even got in 4 hours of continuous sleep one night.  Remaining dry in the mornings, but more leaking in the afternoon and evening. But... improving.  Bodily functions are beginning to get back to normal.  I’ve been researching cancer fighting foods and came up with an awesome turmeric salad dressing.  (I’ll share it in another post.)

Hopefully I’ll continue to see daily and weekly progress like I have been.  I went to a prostate cancer support group in Sacramento and one guy who had his surgery a week before me said that he was doing a lot of things around his 3rd week and had a little set back.  Good advice.  I’ll continue to take it easy.

Chillin with the dogs

I could sum up this last week by saying I felt better and better each day.
There just isn’t anything exciting going on.
I’m doing a lot of reading, taking naps and chillin with the dogs.
I’ve been taking 2-3 walks a day.  Anywhere from ¼ mile to 1½ miles.

That’s about it.

2 Weeks Cancer Free

Went into work today for an hour. (I teach 11th grade U.S. History and 12th grade Economics. Students start school tomorrow.)  I was overwhelmed by everyone’s hugs, encouragement, and support.  It’s great to be working at a place where I’m actually looking forward to getting back. (No idea when that will be, 4-8 weeks???)
After an hour at work, coffee with Jon, and a stop at the grocery store, I had to go home to crash.
After a good nap I got in a 1½ mile walk.
When simple activities get me so worn out I get discouraged, but I read something on a post of an online support group:
“Don’t look at your day to day progress; look at your week to week progress.”

When I look back to last week; what an improvement!

First Mile...

I keep improving each day.

Friday, August 8:
After getting the great news from the Dr. on Thursday I was a little disappointed about the incontinence issue.  I guess I was hoping to be one of those who gets the catheter out and has no problems.  I took Annabelle , the 5 month old puppy for a little training walk around the block. By the end of the day I was just wiped out. It hit me about 7:00PM.

Saturday, August 9:
Felt good in the morning.  Took Rocket for a walk with my neighbor, Greg.  Probably close to 3/4 mile.  Friends of ours paid for a deep cleaning of the house.  What a great thing to do for someone who is recovering. Andrea and I hung out on the front porch and then in the gym while our house was being cleaned. Drove for the first time since surgery. Went to the bank and store. With all the activity I thought I was going to be pretty tired in the evening but we actually stayed up and watched the last two episodes of The Killing on Netflix.

Sunday, August 10:
Wow! Feel really good this morning.  Took Rocket out for a 1 mile (30 minutes) walk.  After that went to the Farmers Market with Andrea and good friend Annette.  Ok… I was pretty tired after that and Andrea made me take a nap.
(I'll edit the rest of the day this evening or tomorrow)

It's Gone!

Great news today!
Went to the Dr. to get my pathology report and it showed all of the cancer was taken out, there were no positive margins.
In other words; there was no cancer from the prostate that was not contained in the capsule that he took out.

I started out as a stage T1 because they found it by doing a biopsy and otherwise wouldn’t have known it was there.

I went to a stage T2 when the second urologist felt something on the prostate that may or may not be contained in the prostate.

I went to a stage T3 after they took it out they discovered that it did extend past the prostate.
(See Diagrams)

That’s where the difference between a good surgeon and great surgeon comes in.
My Dr. said that he saw something that looked suspicious so he cut around it and took a little more tissue out.
Thank God he did.  Other surgeons may not have done so and I would be left with prostate cancer still in me.

It’s been a long week and I am physically and mentally exhausted.
Physically I’m still feeling better every day.
Dr. says no running for 6 weeks.
Not going to push it.
When I asked about returning to work he looked at me and said not to even worry about it.  It’s not worth going back to work a week too soon and cause irreversible damage for the rest of my life.

In the words of Martin Luther King Jr:
FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST; THANK GOD ALMIGHTY I'M FREE (of cancer) AT LAST!

I’ll post again soon but I just wanted to get the basic info out.
